A 52 years old musician, Kirk Dewayne Franklin was born on the 26th of January 1970 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, to father Dwight. His parents were teenagers when Kirk was born and he was raised by his aunt Gertrude after his mother abandoned him at the age of 3. To raise some money for his education his aunt Gertrude worked to recycle aluminum cans. Kirk was just 4 years old when his aunt gave him money to learn piano lessons. Kirk got his first contract which his aunt turned down when he was 7 years old. He entered the church choir in order to pursue a music career and would become music director of the Mt. Rose Baptist Church adult choir by the age of 11. While growing up in his hometown of Fort Worth, Kirk attended Oscar Dean Wyatt High School where he also learned music with Jewell Kelly and the Singing Chaparrals. He later returned to the church and began directing the choir at the age of 15 after he lost his friend in a shooting.
